Kerry Concludes Climate Conference with Carbon Commitments

The United States and the United Arab Emirates on Monday announced a new joint mission to advance renewable energy technologies and industrial decarbonization at the conclusion of a visit by US climate envoy John Kerry to Abu Dhabi. “We will particularly focus our joint efforts on … hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, nature-based solutions, and low-carbon urban design,” a joint statement released by the parties read. The news follows Sunday’s larger agreement signed by Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Sudan, the UAE and the US at the end of the Kerry-led MENA climate dialogue. The countries vowed to accelerate climate action, and step up financial investments in new energy. Later this month, two separate summits convened by US President Joe Biden and the United Nations will seat the world’s countries for more climate talks.
