Kerry and Lavrov Talk about Cooperation on the Syrian Front

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Serge Lavrov spent time together on the sidelines of the Southeast Asian countries meeting in Vientiane, Laos, on Monday, ostensibly to discuss an American proposal for closer cooperation between the two nations — both of whom have air forces active against combatants in the Syrian civil war. Of greatest concern is the need for shared intelligence regarding the bombing of the Al-Qa’ida franchise The Al-Nusra Front; and Russia’s help in preventing the bombing of the so-called “moderate rebel groups” the US believes can serve as American proxies. Thousands of Syrians continue to flow away from home and into European countries, often with ISIS fighters mixed-in.
