American Secretary of State John Kerry is mapping out his next gambit in trying to bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: an international peace conference that will bring Israel, Jordan and the Palestinians to the table under the aegis of the United States. According to sources in Washington, the date will be in June, consistent with the 8-weeks Kerry allowed for his first phase: seeking goodwill gestures to de-toxify the environment. Not all of the details are known yet, including how broad the guest-list will be. Word is that Kerry is considering opening it up to other regional players, but Israel has traditionally been skeptical of international conferences, and given the dearth of positive results Kerry has to show for his opening gambit, observers believe this effort will be viewed cautiously.
