Killings on Both Sides in Taliban Strongholds

Taliban leaders in North Waziristan in Pakistan ordered the execution of two men charged with being spies for the United States. It is thought the brothers – Akhtar and Hassan Muhammad – were killed on Sunday. A note was attached to their bullet-riddled bodies warning of a similar fate for anyone else suspected of spying for the U.S. Meanwhile, reports from South Waziristan suggest seven people were killed in two airstrikes on Monday. When missiles are fired from drones the finger of blame is usually directed at Washington. Pakistan objects to any foreign military activity on or over its territory. The assumption is that the planes flew in from nearby Afghanistan in search of Taliban or Al-Qa’ida targets.
