Kushner: U.S. Peace Plan To Focus On Resolving Border Issue, Economic Cooperation

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner made his most explicit statements to date regarding the Trump administration’s much-hyped Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, telling Arab media while on a five-nation tour of the Middle East that the proposal focuses primarily on the delineation of borders and economic development in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Kushner described the document as “very detailed” and based on numerous core principles: namely, “freedom, where we want people to enjoy their rights of opportunity, religion and worship regardless of their beliefs as well as respect.” Kushner made the comments from the United Arab Emirates and also is slated to visit Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar in an effort to garner support for the plan. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law is being accompanied by U.S. Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt and Special Representative on Iran Brian Hook. With respect to the Islamic Republic, Kushner reiterated that the mullahs represent the biggest threat to security and stability and that the regime “stands behind” terrorism in the region. The American peace proposal is expected to be unveiled shortly after Israel’s April 9 elections.
