Several on-line activists have been arrested by Kuwaiti authorities for insulting the late Saudi King Abdullah. The monarch died last week at the age of 90. News of the arrests came from a Twitter account belonging to the National Committee for Monitoring Violations. Another rights group said the arrests – and arrest warrants that were issued against five others – were aimed at “intimidating [those named in the warrants] from working as defenders of human rights.” “Exercising free speech rights” has landed a number of journalists, politicians and rights-activists in jail in Kuwait recently according to Human Rights Watch.
