At least seven people were killed in an attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) against a hotel in Egypt’s unstable Sinai Peninsula early Tuesday morning. It is a second blow against the tourism industry Egypt relies on to bring in foreign currency, following the downing of a Russian commercial airliner three weeks ago. The Swiss Inn in El-Arish, in the northern Sinai, was attacked by explosive devices and gunfire while jurists monitoring Egyptian parliamentary elections were housed at the resort. At least one judge was killed in the attack, according to Egyptian security officials. For Egypt, which has been struggling to exert military control of the largely unpopulated, vast peninsula against ISIS inroads, the latest attack is another significant setback.
