A Lebanese newspaper has reported that residents of southern Lebanon have complained that Spanish UNIFIL troops have been raiding homes and carrying out house-to-house searches for weapons. One village cited in the report is Houla, which faces Israeli positions across the border. The Daily Star quoted a UNIFIL spokesman as denying that such searches were being carried out. Spokesman, Milos Strugar, told the newspaper in a telephone interview that, "Spanish troops were not searching residential houses… The troops were conducting normal operations in the area."
