Lebanese television personality May Chidiac was awarded the "Courage in Journalism Award" in New York on Tuesday by the International Women’s Media Foundation. Chidiac attracted world-wide attention when a bomb exploded beneath her car in September 2005. It is widely believed that she was attacked because of her open criticism of Syria. Chidiac, who has undergone 26 operations since the incident, lost a hand and a leg in the attack. At the award ceremony, she referred to Syria, saying, "Regimes are trying, even after their visible withdrawal from Lebanon, to prevent me and others from telling the world the truth about what is happening in my country and to my fellow Lebanese." Chidiac said she still felt threatened, but added that, "I gave my country a hand to fight with and a leg to kick all the enemies with."
