Lebanon March Against “Sectarian Regime” Planned

“Toppling the Sectarian Regime” will be the theme of a mass march planned for Beirut on Sunday. Organizers promise a peaceful demonstration, but according to the Beirut Daily Star, also promise that it “won’t be another ordinary march.” A spokesman for the organizers told the newspaper that participants will represent “all political parties” but that marchers should “leave their [political] beliefs behind.” The demonstration is inspired by the unrest that is spreading throughout the Arab world and according to the organizers, is intended to create a peaceful mechanism for channeling it inside of Lebanon. No party flags – and not even the national flag – will be allowed to be displayed by marchers.
