Libya will renew oil production within weeks and reach pre-war output within 15 months, Nouri Berouin, the newly appointed chairman of the country’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said. A member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Libya was producing 1.6 million barrels a day before an uprising began in February against leader Muamar Al-Qaddafi. The civil war caused foreign workers to flee and some oilfields and export terminals were damaged. Berouin said the majority of oil fields had not suffered significant damage but that minefields around the Brega export terminal could slow the resumption of operations.
