Libyan Aid Ship Sets Sail for Gaza

In five days time a Libyan ship carrying humanitarian aid is expected to reach the Gaza Strip. This is the first Arab ship that has set sail for Gaza in a bid to test the Israeli closure of the coastal enclave. Several boats carrying aid and people who describe themselves as peace workers have attempted to reach the Strip over the last couple of months. The Libyan vessel, which set sail from Zowwara, is carrying 3,000 tons of food aid, according to the IMEMC Palestinian media center. Israel is understood to be considering relaxing its stranglehold on Gaza in the coming days. Jerusalem upped the closure after dozens of rockets were fired by Palestinians towards Israeli homes. The international community is urging Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the Strip, with some accusing the Israelis of collective punishment.
