Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa Defects

Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa defected on Wednesday in another blow to the government of Muamar Al-Qaaddafi. " Kussa is one of the most senior figures in Al-Qaddafi’s government and his role was to represent the regime internationally, something that he is no longer willing to do," said the British Foreign Office after he landed in an airport near London. Kussa arrived after a two-day stay in Tunisia, which Tripoli officially described as a private visit. When he was reported to be flying to London, Libya said he was on a "diplomatic mission." Several members of Al-Qaddafi’s government, including ministers and senior army officers, have defected since the uprising began a month ago. Meanwhile, U.S. officials acknowledged that the Central Intelligence Agency has sent small teams of operatives into Libya. The opposition is incapable of prevailing without decisive Western intervention, a senior U.S. intelligence official told the Associated Press.
