Libya’s interim leader has asked the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to continue air patrols through December and add military advisers on the ground.
“Al-Qaddafi still has supporters in neighboring countries, and we fear those loyalists could be launching attacks against us and infiltrating our borders,” Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, chairman of the Transitional National Council, said in an interview with the pan-Arab news channel Al Jazeera. “We need technical support and training for our troops on the ground.” NATO ministers last week tentatively set next Monday as the end of their military operations in Libya, which were conducted under the auspices of a United Nations Security Council resolution.
