Lioness in Central Iran Zoo Kills Zookeeper, Escapes With Mate

A lioness in a zoo in central Iran opened her cage door and escaped with her mate. The lioness, who had been at the zoo for several years, killed a zookeeper who had just come to bring the felines some food on Sunday in the zoo in the Iranian city of Arak. The victim, 40, was killed while putting meat through a feeding window, according to state media. The lion couple spent a couple of hours on the lam inside the zoo, located nearly 150 miles from the capital, Tehran, before they were captured – alive. Security forces took over the zoo after the lions broke out of their cage. Such incidents are rare in Iran, according to The Associated Press.
