America‘s Lockheed Martin corporation is reporting success in testing its Sky Shield system against Katyusha and Qassam rockets. The system uses radar and a rapid-fire 35mm canon that creates a barrier by firing tungsten-tipped ammunition in a spiral pattern. Incoming warheads are destroyed as they fly through the field of shrapnel. Globes financial newspaper reports the cost of Sky Shield to be about $15 million per system. The number of systems required is determined by the size of the town or city being protected.
