Lusail Sky Festival Lights Up Qatar With Drones, Jets, and Family Fun

Thousands of visitors have gathered in Lusail City, Qatar, for the Lusail Sky Festival, a three-day aviation and entertainment event organized by Visit Qatar, the promotional arm of Qatar Tourism. The festival, which began Thursday and runs through Saturday, features a mix of international aerial performances and ground-based attractions aimed at families and tourists.

The centerpiece of the festival is a drone and pyrotechnics display involving more than 3,000 lighted drones and 150 aircraft, choreographed to music and synchronized light effects. Other aerial events include jet demonstrations, skywriting, and professional skydiving shows from aerobatic teams flown in from around the world.

On the ground, the event offers live music, cultural performances, and a theater hosting family-friendly programming. A food zone featuring 14 food trucks and stalls provides a wide variety of dining options.

The Lusail Sky Festival is part of Qatar’s wider effort to position itself as a global events destination and expand its tourism sector. Since hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar has stepped up its investment in international entertainment and cultural programming. The government has aimed to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas, using tourism as a key pillar of its Vision 2030 strategy.

The event is taking place in Lusail, a planned city just north of Doha, built in part to accommodate major events and serve as a showcase of Qatar’s infrastructure ambitions.
