Mauritanian security forces have been put on high alert because of information of a pending terror attack. Security forces received information early on Thursday about several car bombs that were planned to be detonated throughout the capital Nouakchott, a “reliable security source” told the news site Taqaddumi. The suspects are believed to be Salafists who arrived in Nouakchott over the past few days and might have ties to Al-Qa’ida. Dozens of police cars were patrolling the capital’s main arteries and checking cars on Thursday. The West African country has been targeted by Al-Qa’ida’s Algeria-based North African operation in recent months.
