Mohamed Badie, Muslim Brotherhood Colleagues, Lose Appeal; Life Sentences Upheld

Mohamed Badie, leader of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, who was arrested after Mohamed Morsi, the first president elected ostensibly democratically following the overthrow of longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak who himself was overthrown by the military, on Saturday lost the appeal of his life sentence. He and two Muslim Brotherhood comrades will serve out their respective years in prison. Fourteen others’ terms will remain at five years. Supporters of Morsi, who still insist he is the rightful president of Egypt having been elected in a democratic election, claim the Muslim Brotherhood leader is being systematically killed by being subject to harsh conditions in jail.
