Morsi Accused of Passing Secrets to Iran Revolutionary Guard

At one of his three trials underway simultaneously, ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was accused of passing state secrets to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in an attempt to destabilize the nation. The espionage charges allege that Morsi conspired with his Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and the Iranian government in a plot to destabilize Egypt. 34 co-defendants are on trial with Morsi. Among the information Morsi is accused of sharing with foreign governments are “national defense secrets” that would allow the Revolutionary Guard to “destabilize the security and stability of the country.” Morsi is also on trial for killing protestors during his reign in office and for his alleged role in a jailbreak that saw scores of Muslim Brotherhood members escape from jail during the riots that led to the overthrow of former President Hosni Mubarak.
