Intelligence provided by Israel’s Mossad spy agency to Argentine security officials resulted in the thwarting of a Hizbullah terror plot against Jewish institutions in the South American country. Police arrested two brothers and their cousin at a hideout in Buenos Aires that housed weapons and explosives intended to be used in a multi-pronged attack. Hizbullah is known to be active in Argentina, having in 1994 killed 85 people in a massive terrorist attack on the AMIA Jewish center located in the capital. Two years earlier, the Iranian proxy murdered 29 individuals in a suicide bombing at the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires. In 2015, prosecutor Alberto Nisman was found dead at home with a bullet in his head one day before he was scheduled to brief the Argentine parliament on the findings of his investigation into an alleged cover-up of the 1994 attack. Nisman reportedly was set to reveal incriminating evidence against high-ranking government officials including former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
