Mubarak’s Trial Postponed Till December

Appearing in a Cairo court with his two sons, a former interior minister and six senior security officers, former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak got some good news: The court had decided to postpone his trial until the end of December. The ruling came after lawyers for relatives of protestors killed in the uprising appealed to another court to replace the tribunal judging Mubarak and his co-defendants, who are charged with involvement in the deaths of over 800 protesters. The lengthy delay was sure to frustrate reformers who have criticized the slow progress of the Egyptian military rulers are making in bringing the country to democracy. Mubarak, who stepped down after 29 years in power during the uprising last February, could face the death penalty if convicted.
