Muslim Anti-ISIS “Not in My Name” Campaign Spreading in Europe

 
A grassroots movement among European Muslims to repudiate ISIS is spreading. The French news agency AFP is reporting that Muslim groups throughout Europe are joining efforts to say “not in my name” through social media campaigns and in rallies on the streets of European capitals. Demonstrations have been held in Norway, Germany and France accusing ISIS of “hijacking” Muslim religion and terminology to fan hatred and violence.  The chairman of Germany’s Central Council of Muslims called ISIS “terrorists and murderers who drag Islam into the dirt and bring hatred and suffering to the people.” The agency quoted the chairman of the World Conference of Religions for Peace as saying that “the words of Islam have been confiscated by criminals and terrorists. Jihad used to be an effort in the service of God. Now it’s become a symbol of barbarism.”
