Having again defeated those seeking to end his record longevity as prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday began the task of constructing a new coalition. All parties have time scheduled with President Reuven Rivlin on Monday and Tuesday to present their recommendations for the party most deserving to lead the government, with a sufficient number of seats in parliament already in-line for Netanyahu to get the nod to create a coalition. The president will announce his decision on Wednesday. There remain those who expect to see purported head of opposition Benny Gantz to take a seat next to Prime Minister Netanyahu in a sort of unity government, but as the days tick on and the formation of a new cabinet proceeds, that scenario becomes more remote.
