Netanyahu Calls for Barrier Between Israel and Jordan

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that Israel must prepare for a possible infiltration by ISIS forces, which have taken over large swathes of Iraq, and Israel fears could also take root in Jordan. Netanyahu said Israel should build a barrier along the eastern border of the whole country from Eilat in the south to the Golan Heights in the north. Netanyahu’s statements were the clearest expression of his concern about ISIS, a splinter group from al-Qa’ida that has moved quickly to take control of large parts of Iraq. He also said that the growing power of ISIS shows that Israel must maintain a military presence in the Jordan Valley even after a future peace deal with the Palestinians. On another issue, Netanyahu said he supports Kurdish independence in Iraq and that Israel must built a regional axis of cooperation with moderate forces.
