Netanyahu: Israeli Attack on Iran Would be Good for the Arabs

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the French magazine Paris Match that an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities would not destabilize the Middle East. “Five minutes after, contrary to what the skeptics say, I think a feeling of relief would spread across the region,” Netanyahu is quoted as saying. “Iran is not popular in the Arab world, far from it, and some governments in the region, as well as their citizens, have understood that a nuclear armed Iran would be dangerous not just for them, but for Israel.” Netanyahu began a visit to Paris today, where the Iranian issue is expected to be high on the agenda. Israel’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak said an Israeli strike is not imminent after Iran converted some of its enriched uranium to fuel rods for civilian use. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Barak said “the moment of truth” can be delayed by 8 to 10 months. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, while Israel has said that Iran becoming a nuclear power would be an “existential threat” to the existence of the Jewish state.
