Netanyahu Pulls Ahead of Gantz in Final Furlong of Electoral Race
Two new polls handed incumbent Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu some good news – but the question is whether it’s good enough news. With a week remaining until Israelis vote for the third time since last April, Netanyahu’s Likud Party has edged ahead of the Blue and White alliance of Benny Gantz in terms of the number of seats the parties are projected to win. But despite the new guesstimate of 35 to 34 and 34 to 33, respectively, both polls see no way either man will be able to garner a coalition of 61 or more seats. If that prediction comes to fruition, the scene will be set for a 4th election and outcome Israelis already loath to consider. Unchanged is the prediction that the third largest party will be the “Joint List” – an alliance of Arab parties.
