Netanyahu Support Rally Draws Thousands

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was in his element at a rally of thousands of Likud supporters in Tel Aviv. The rally came amid reports that both Netanyahu and his wife Sara could soon be indicted on corruption charges. Netanyahu did not mention the charges, and taking a page from US President Trump’s playbook, charged the Left and the media with “an obsessive, unprecedented witch-hunt against me and my family, seeking to overthrow the government…Their goal is to put inappropriate pressure on law enforcement, with no connection to justice.” The Prime Minister looked relaxed as he spoke, hitting at several of his favorite targets, calling the media the “thought police.” There were chants of “Bibi, Bibi!” using the Prime Minister’s nickname, and boos whenever the Prime Minister mentioned the left or the media. He also told the crowd that the Palestinians hope he will be toppled so that Israel will withdraw from the West Bank and create a Palestinian state. Netanyahu sounded very much like President Trump at one of his rallies, and a headline in the Jerusalem Post read “How Bibi Trumped Trump,” turning the criminal investigations against him into a fight between himself and the media.
