New Airline Security Procedures begin Thursday

International airlines flying from the Middle East to the United States have been asked by American security officials that of Thursday, pre-screening interviews be added to security procedures on flights from certain Arab airports to the United States. Air France, Cathay Pacific, EgyptAir, Emirates and Lufthansa have already agreed while Royal Jordanian says it will do so after the first of the year. Each airline has its own version of how the interview requests will be filled, doing so at the check—in counter approved by one while others are printing “interview cards.” American officials are trying to avoid using a ban on all laptops such as was tried recently but resulted in a loss of revenue to those carriers that prevented their passengers from bringing laptops aboard. Carriers are also concerned that the new security chats will cause delays and interrupt boarding procedures.
