New Sex Scandal Claims Senior Netanyahu Cabinet Minister

A senior cabinet minister in the government of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has resigned from the parliament and cabinet following complaints of sexual abuse lodged by eleven women. Sylvan Shalom, interior minister and deputy prime minister, stepped down after the attorney general ordered an investigation into the allegations of seven of the complainants. Shalom is a familiar face to many outside of Israel from his tenure as foreign minister. He also served as finance minister and for many years has been a leading figure in the Likud Party, the party headed by Netanyahu. Accusations of sexual misconduct are not unknown on the Israeli political front, the highest profile case being Former President Moshe Katzav, also a member of Likud, who is presently serving a prison sentence for rape.
