The power vacuum in Yemen following the resignation of President Hadi continues as the parliament, scheduled to discuss the resignation on Sunday, failed to convene. Responding to concerns over the impact of Hadi’s exit on the American war against Al-Qa’ida being fought in tandem with the Yemeni army, President Obama vowed to continue to target the Islamist terrorists irrespective of the government crisis. The Shiite Houthis remain in control of the capital Sana’a where Hadi is still believed to be under an effective house arrest in the presidential residence. Demonstrators continue to clash in the streets with Houthi gunmen.
