No Palestinian Reconciliation in Sight as Egypt Urges Factions to Sign

Egypt has taken another stab at getting Fatah and Hamas to sign the reconciliation document it brokered. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Yasser Arafat Foundation in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul-Gheit said, “Palestinian reconciliation remains a major priority to Egypt.” Fatah signed, but Hamas balked last October and no progress has been made since then. Abul-Gheit also said Egypt supports getting Israel and the Palestinians back to the negotiating table “in a way that tackles all issues related to the final-status solution, including Jerusalem and border demarcation.”
