Norway Livid over Palestinian Plans to Use Oslo’s Gift to Honor Terrorist

Norway has reacted angrily to the use of Norwegian funds to build a women’s center named for a notorious female terrorist. Oslo’s demand that it logo be removed from the building and the money used to build it be returned to Norway at once represents the first tangible instance of a European nation taking action to distance its largesse to the Palestinians from the appearance of supporting terror. In 1978, Dalal Mugrabi led a band of terrorists as they carried out a massacre of 35 Israeli civilians including 12 children on the Coastal Road along the Mediterranean. Mugrabi was killed in the ensuing gunfight with Israeli security forces and instantly became a highly praised “martyr.” Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende declared that, “Norway will not allow itself to become associated with institutions that are named after terrorists…and will not accept the use of Norwegian aid for such purposes.” The Norwegians learned of the building and its honoree despite not being told by the Palestinian Authority and not having been invited to the opening ceremony which was held last week. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also announced that the UN would not allow it to be associated with the center and demanded the UN logo be removed from the building.
