NY Times: U.S. Speeding Up Deployment of Defensive Missiles Throughout Gulf

The New York Times reported on Saturday that the Obama administration is speeding up deployment of anti-missile missile systems throughout the Gulf region, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. According to The Times, the administration’s strategy is to send messages to Iran to think twice about launching any military operation against a Gulf state; and to Israel to forego any solo-attempt to disrupt or destroy Iran’s nuclear development program. On Friday, Obama’s National Security Adviser James Jones warned that Iran might use its proxies Hizbullah and Hamas to instigate fights with Israel as a way of deflecting attention from its nuclear ambitions.
