NYT: Trump Peace Proposal Nearly Completed, To Be Revealed ‘Soon’

According to the New York Times, citing senior Trump administration officials, the White House’s long-anticipated Israeli-Palestinian peace plan is nearly complete and will be presented to relevant parties, including  leaders of Arab nations, in the very near future. While the officials declined to provide details of the proposal, they stressed that it would not include a set of broad guiding principles, as was the case with past American plans, but, rather, outline specific solutions to the main issues of borders, security, refugees and the status of Jerusalem. Notably, the Times claimed that the document will not explicitly call for a two-state solution, but will instead offer pathways towards creating two states for two peoples. It remains unclear whether the Palestinian Authority has changed its position on the U.S. initiative, which it rejected outright following President Donald Trump’s recognition in December of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a move PA leader Mahmoud Abbas said disqualified Washington from its traditional role as mediator of peace negotiations. The Times report was published on the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told his cabinet that there is still “no concrete American peace plan on the table.”
