The Palestinian leader, Mahmoud ‘Abbas, and Israel’s premier, Ehud Olmert, are meeting in Jerusalem on Tuesday. High on the agenda are Palestinian demands for an easing of restrictions on Palestinian life. The two are also discussing what issues to place on the negotiating table in time for the international peace summit slated for the fall. After his meeting with Israel’s foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, on Monday, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Faya’d told reporters Israel was talking of gestures but doing little on the ground. Israel may release Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture ahead of the upcoming Muslim holy month, Ramadan.
