Oman has claimed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been spying on it, saying it uncovered a spy network that targeted its government and military. According to Oman’s state news agency ONA, an unspecified number of Omani nationals were arrested, including people who worked for the government. The arrests took place about two months ago, but were only announced on Monday. The UAE denied it was spying on Oman and published a statement saying that it was willing to cooperate in any investigation “to uncover those who try to mar the relations between the two countries.” Analysts have speculated that UAE was keen on gaining more intelligence on the security and military cooperation between Oman and Iran, which maintain good relations.
