Clashes between hard-line Salafis and secularists in Tunisia are continuing. A Tunisian security source told Reuters that one Salafi was killed after security forces fired when Salafis attacked a police station. Hundreds of Salafis attacked the police station after one of their members was arrested and accused of stabbing a police chief. For decades, Tunisia was seen as one of the most secular countries in the Arab world. But since the authoritarian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was overthrown in a popular uprising last year, there have been growing tensions between Islamists and secularists. As the birthplace of the Arab Spring, Tunisia is seen as an important test case for the future of democracy in the Arab world.
