Pakistan, India Uphold Tradition of Exchanging Nuclear Lists

India and Pakistan on Monday continued their longstanding tradition of exchanging lists of their nuclear installations, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said. This exchange, part of a bilateral agreement, occurred simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad through diplomatic channels. 2023 marks the 33rd consecutive year of this exchange, underscoring a commitment to transparency and confidence-building measures between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

In addition to the nuclear lists, both nations also swapped information regarding prisoners and fishermen currently detained in each other’s jails. This exchange is a crucial aspect of the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, as it allows for the monitoring of the welfare of these individuals and assists in the process of their repatriation.

This annual exchange of lists is guided by an agreement first reached between India and Pakistan in 1988, which stipulates the mutual sharing of information about nuclear installations and facilities. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the risk of nuclear conflict in the region.
