Two weeks after announcing a boycott of five large Israeli companies, Palestinian activists are going door to door in the West Bank town of Ramallah enforcing that boycott. In several shops where Israeli-made snacks or milk were found on the shelves, shop owners were told they had 48 hours to remove all Israeli products. Some of the shop owners said they stood to lose significant amounts of money for the products they had already bought. It is also not clear if local Palestinian suppliers will be able to produce and deliver enough milk, yoghurt and other dairy products that traditionally come from Israel. The boycott was announced as part of a Palestinian protest of Israel’s decision to stop transferring $100 million per month in Palestinian tax and customs revenues that Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority. Israel took the move to protest the Palestinian decision to join the International Criminal Court.
