A Palestinian human rights watchdog has criticized the Palestinian Authority for its actions in breaking up a rally in support of hunger-striking prisoners on Friday. In a statement, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said, “Palestinian security officers used force to disperse the demonstration and attacked the demonstrators, including women, with sticks and batons. As a result, many demonstrators sustained bruises.” The Ma’an news agency had reported that PA forces tried to prevent newsmen from covering the rally, using force and in at least one case destroyed the camera belonging to a CNN reporter. PCHR has called upon the attorney general to investigate.
