Palestinian Authority Rejects Tehran’s Offer of Subsidies for “Martyrs”

Nabil Abu Rudaineh, a spokesman for Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, said that Iran had not coordinated last week’s surprise offer of payment for Palestinians killed in the ongoing violence with Ramallah and rejected outright what he termed a “trade in the suffering.”

The PLO “rejects any attempt to bypass it and insists that the PLO is the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinians,” he said, stipulating that that the PLO provides sufficient aid and eases the suffering of the Palestinians despite its limited resources.

Last week, Muhammad Fathali, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, said that Tehran would offer $7,000 [2] to the families of each Palestinian killed in what he called the “Al-Quds Intifada” whose houses were demolished by Israeli forces.
