Palestinian Hunger Strikers Enter 32nd Day; Moved to Prisons Near Hospitals

The Israel Prison Service has reportedly moved the estimated 1,300 Palestinian prisoners who have remained on a hunger strike to prisons located in close proximity to field hospitals that were set up at the start of the strike. Dubbed “the freedom and dignity” strike, prisoners are demanding a series of rights ranging from increased family visitation to more channels on the prison television systems. The initiative is headed by Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, a man often mentioned as an obvious successor to octogenarian Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas – except for the matter of his five successive sentences for terrorist murder.
