A Palestinian court has sentenced a man to hang for selling land to an Israeli company. The sentence was handed down in a court in Hebron following a two-day trial behind closed doors. Selling land to Israelis is considered treason by the Palestinians. Prosecutors argued that the defendant forged documents to sell land that did not belong to him. Under Palestinian law, the sentence will be reviewed by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas – whom many believe will commute the decree or withhold authority to carry out the sentence.
