Palestinian Men (over 55) and Women (over 50) Allowed to Enter Israel at Will

Israeli authorities are implementing a number of good-will gestures for Palestinians aimed at maintaining the prevailing calm. Atop the list is the unprecedented act of allowing Palestinian men above the age of 55 and Palestinian women 50 and above to enter Israel at will: a gesture that could affect some 400,000 people. Also benefiting will be those who will no longer require work permits meaning about 2,000 permits will be available for others. 52,000 Palestinians enter Israel to work each day while another 26,000 work in Jewish communities located on the West Bank. Some restrictions are being lifted in anticipation of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, including greatly increasing the number of Palestinians who will be allowed access to holy sites in the Old City of Jerusalem including praying at the Al-Aqsa mosque on what Muslims call Haram Al-Sharif and Jews call the Temple Mount.
