Palestinian Suspect In Grisly Murder Of Israeli Teen Arrested Near Ramallah

A Palestinian man identified as Arafat Irfaiya was arrested by Israeli security forces in the West Bank after allegedly murdering Ori Ansbacher, 19, in Jerusalem’s Ein Yael forest on Thursday. The killing, which is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism, sparked national outrage over the weekend as the purported grisly details of the attack were shared on social media, prompting a rare statement from police urging individuals to not jump to conclusions. Nevertheless, senior Israeli politicians—including Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked—in addition to segments of the public called for the perpetrator to receive the death penalty, a punishment not meted out in the Jewish state since the 1962 case of Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann. Protests were held in major Israeli cities Saturday night, with citizens demanding the government halt the transfer of taxes and tariffs collected on behalf of and distributed to the Palestinian Authority until such time that Mahmoud Abbas stops providing terrorists and their families with monthly stipends. Last year, the Israeli parliament passed the Deduction Law, which allows Jerusalem to withhold an estimated $300 million the PA allocates annually to its so-called “pay-for-slay” policy. According to reports, Irfaiya may be affiliated with Hamas and previously served jail time for entering Israel proper illegally while in possession of a knife.
