While Palestinians are celebrating the victory of a Gazan in the Pan-Arab version of the “Idol” television singing competitions, the United Nations wasted no time in mounting the bandwagon by naming 22-year old Khan Younis resident Mohammad Assaf a goodwill ambassador for the UNRWA agency. Not to be outdone, shortly after Assaf’s victory was declared on Saturday night, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas named him as goodwill ambassador to the Palestinian diaspora. Assaf was crowned “Arab Idol” in Beirut.
