Masked attackers stabbed two elderly women in the East Talpiot neighborhood in Jerusalem, as a group of about five Israelis were walking along a popular promenade there. The two women, both in their 70’s, were moderately wounded and were taken to hospital. The stabbing attack came after several weeks of relative quiet in what has been called the “knife intifada” in which Palestinians have killed 30 Israelis and several foreign citizens over the past six months. About 200 Palestinians, many of them involved in the attacks, have also been killed. Today’s attack was in the same neighborhood as an assault on a bus in October that killed an American grandfather of eight. The neighborhood in southern Jerusalem borders on several Arab neighborhoods.
