People Smuggling into Yemen Results in More Deaths

As many as 250 refugees from Africa may have died during September as they attempted to cross into Yemen in the Arabian Peninsula, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Some 90 people are known to have died, with a further 150 reported missing. The deaths occured when the refugees boarded boats operated by less-than-scrupulous sailors, who charge exhorbitant amounts for the relatively short crossing. Some force passengers to jump overboard at gunpoint, while others are drowned in unseaworthy boats that capsize.
