Plurality of Israeli Jews Say Trump Peace Plan Won’t Favor Israel

A new survey shows that one-third (32 percent) of Israeli Jews believe that US President Donald Trump’s much-hyped peace plan, which reportedly will be unveiled in June, will harm Israel. By contrast, 24% said they felt it would be beneficial for Israel, and 22% said it would have no impact at all on the state’s political, economic or security trajectory. The poll, conducted jointly by Tel Aviv University’s Evens Program in Mediation and Conflict Management and the Midgam Consulting and Research Institute, found that 20% of Jewish Israelis foresaw Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declaring sovereignty over some lands Israel captured during the 1967 war, whereas 22% envisioned the conflict ending with an agreement based on the “two states for two peoples” paradigm. Fully 83% of Jewish Israelis voiced opposition to the formation of a binational state comprising Israel proper as well as the West Bank (compared to 59% of Israeli Arabs) while 43% said they expected the status quo to continue for the foreseeable future.
